Association of Fundraising Professionals National Philanthropy Day® in Connecticut 2020 Award Nominations

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING PHILANTHROPIST
This award honors an individual or family with a proven record of exceptional generosity who, through direct financial support demonstrates outstanding civic and charitable responsibility and whose generosity encourages others to take philanthropic leadership roles on a community, national or international level.

Nominations will be considered on the basis of the following criteria:
1) Description of participation in and gift support of nonprofit organizations in the community, nationally and/or internationally. (0-65 points)
2) Description of philanthropic support of innovative and/or impactful approaches to solving problems. (0-10 points)
3) Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to take leadership roles in philanthropy (e.g. challenge gifts,
matching gifts, volunteering, etc.). (0-25 points)

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISER
This award honors an individual or family that demonstrates outstanding skills in coordinating and motivating groups of volunteers for fundraising projects for the benefit of charitable institutions. The recipient must have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in coordinating groups of volunteers for major fundraising projects for more than one nonprofit organization.

Nominations will be considered on the basis of the following criteria:
1) Evidence of quality of leadership and organizational ability in fundraising campaigns. (0-25 points)
2) Description of time, effort and personal financial commitment. (0-25 points)
3) Description of fundraising goals achieved by his/her effort. (0-15 points)
4) Evidence of success in recruiting and motivating others. (0-20 points)
5) Description of participation in other local, national and/or international nonprofit organizations. (0-15 points)

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING YOUTH IN PHILANTHROPY
(Two awards will be given total, One award per age range 5-17 and 18-23 )
This award recognizes service by an individual or group of young people who demonstrate outstanding commitment to the community through direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering and leadership in philanthropy. Philanthropic youth programs will not be considered.

Nominations will be considered on the basis of the following criteria:
1) Description in detail of what the nominee(s) did, including goals, process, budget (if relevant) and other people involved in the process (adult leaders or advisors, etc.), and of the time, talent and/or treasure the youth gave for the common good and the results that were achieved. (0-40 points)
2) Description of the impact the nominee had on the community, including numbers of people involved, financial impact,
organizations helped, etc. Please include the names and contact information of individuals at the organizations who benefited from the nominee’s work. (0-30 points)
3) Long term (1-2 years) impact of the nominee’s work. Will the project(s) be ongoing and has the nominee(s) considered next steps or is working on other projects? (0-20 points)
4) Evidence that the project(s) can serve as a prototype for others or is easily replicable in other communities (0-10 points)

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CORPORATION
This award honors a corporation or its corporate foundation that demonstrates commitment through financial support and through encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement.

Nominations will be considered based on the responses to the following criteria:
1) Evidence of philanthropic support of innovative and/or effective approaches to solving problems within the community, nationally and/or internationally. (0-45 points)
2) Description of impact of gift support and achievements accomplished through the corporation’s efforts. (0-40 points)
3) Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement. (0-15 points)

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING FUNDRAISING PROFESSIONAL
This award honors an outstanding individual fundraising professional who works full time for a nonprofit, charitable organization; practices his/her profession in an exemplary manner; and is a member of AFP Fairfield or AFP Connecticut chapters. CFRE or ACFRE certification is not required.

Nominations will be considered based on the responses to the following criteria:
1) Brief description of career achievements, length and tenure of fundraising background, experience and results. The recipient must have at least 10 years of professional fundraising experience. (0-25 points).
2) Evidence of quality of leadership that is effective, creative and stimulating, and that the individual acts as a team player. (0-20 points)
3) Evidence that the individual practices and promotes the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards for fundraising professionals found at www.afpnet.org. (0-20 points)
4) Brief description of individual’s commitment to continuing professional development, including certification (a CFRE or ACFRE is not required), conference participation, publication and professional education. (0-15 points)
5) Evidence of commitment to fundraising and philanthropy through voluntary service and financial support of nonprofit organizations. (0-20 points)
