The Monumental City Bar Association (MCBA) - 90th Anniversary Awards Nomination Form

The Monumental City Bar Association (MCBA) is Baltimore’s oldest and largest specialty bar association. Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, MCBA has a long legacy and rich history as an advocate for black attorneys and the interests of the black community.

Embracing a commitment to service and to excellence, our members have made significant contributions to the legal community in Baltimore City and throughout the state of Maryland. Our members serve prominently in the judiciary, state and federal governments, law firms, academia, law firms, corporate and non-profit organizations.

In 2025, MCBA will celebrate its 90th year in existence.  As part of our celebration, we will be honoring "Legends, Leaders and Legacies" who have played a significant role in the establishment and development of black lawyers in Maryland.   

All nominees should possess the following four (4) qualifications:

1. Preeminence in their area of expertise, as recognized regionally and nationally;

2. Recognized as a leader in the legal community and in the black community for enhancing the public's view of the law and lawyers by their expertise;

3. Demonstrated professionalism and high ethical conduct through their career; and

4. Impacted the legal community as a whole.

MCBA 90th Anniversary  - Awards Categories

There are 3 awards categories:

  1. Legends - Individuals who have worked to create a place and space for black lawyers in Maryland.  These people helped to advance significant change in the law.  Attributes include being a trailblazer, highly respected member of the bar who is admired for their achievements.  Someone who is most likely a "first" whose professional life inspires others. 
  2. Leaders Individuals currently widely admired for their influence or significance in the legal field, who have an extraordinary legal talent, who is passionate about the law, active in the black community and the legal community, and a mentor to young lawyers. Individuals whose career accomplishments have included outstanding performance, exceptional service to the legal profession and/or the community, and unselfish contributions to advance the careers of colleagues and/or less experienced lawyers.
  3. Legacies - Individuals who are carrying on the legacy created by the legends and leaders. A mentor, an advocate, a sponsor, and a change agent; one who exemplifies the spirit of professionalism, who gives back in a meaningful way to the public, the community, or to the legal profession.
