Program information
The AARP Tax-Aide program is intended to help taxpayers with low and moderate income, with special attention to those aged 60 and older. The counselors are not trained in un-common/complex tax situations and therefore are unable to prepare all tax returns. Some examples of situations that cannot be handled by the program are:
  • Self-employment (Schedule C) if you have employees, losses, expenses that exceed $50,000, depreciation, business use of home, or other complicating factors
  • Hobby income or other activities not for profit
  • Complicated capital gains/losses, such as futures or options
  • Complicated Schedule K-1 (with items other than interest, dividends, capital gains/losses or royalties)
  • Rental income, except land-only rentals or rentals of personal residence less than 15 days in the year
  • Moving expenses
  • Foreign financial asset reporting requirements
  • Any virtual currency investment or transaction
  • Foreign Student Returns
