Volunteer Opportunities with Orlando Math Circle
Orlando Math Circle (OMC) is a nonprofit dedicated to making math joyful, creative, and social for students across Central Florida. We create welcoming, technology-free spaces where students collaborate, play with ideas, and build confidence through problem-solving and math games.

Online Trainings
Math Circle Leader Program

To get annual certification, must participate in one monthly cycle each semester at minimum. Time commitment for each monthly cycle will be 6-8 hours in 3 different parts.

Online Training 1, Duration : 55 Min
Participate in a online math circle with an expert math circle leader mathematician and learn to play with the math activity.

Online Training 2, Duration: 55 Min
Practice leading the math activity with an expert facilitator and learn math pedagogy techniques that engage students in discovering new concepts.

Outreach - In person/Online, Duration: 1-2 hrs
Do the math outreach online or in-person with elementary school kids and revise your activity plan

Conclusion
Collaborate with other peers and circle leader to discuss and learn from how your activity was implemented.

Liability Waiver *
As parent or legal guardian of the minor, (hereinafter "Child"), herby grant the permission necessary to allow Child to participate in Orlando Math Circle online or at any physical location where OMC events are held(the "Program"). I understand the Program does not guarantee the suitability of the Program for Child's participation. I understand that there are inherent risks involved in participating in the Program, and I realize that participation in the Program is my and the Child's choice. I am aware that, during the program, certain risks and dangers may occur, including, but not limited to accident or illness; the forces of nature; all manner of foreseen and unforeseen bodily and personal injuries, including death; damage to property; and the consequences resulting therefrom. IN CONSIDERATION OF CHILD BEING PERMITTED TO ATTEND AND PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM, I ACKNOWLEDGE AND VOLUNTARILY ASSUME ALL RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROGRAM. I, on my own behalf, and on behalf of the Child, our heirs, representatives, executors, administrators and assign, for the sole consideration of Child being allowed to attend and participate in the program, do hereby release, relieve, covenant not to sue and forever discharge, defend, indemnify and hold harmless, Orlando Math Circle, its officers, agents, employees, students, and volunteers (hereinafter collectively "OMC") of any and from all claims, demands, rights, liabilities, losses, expenses and causes of action (with the exception of gross negligence or willful misconduct) of whatever kind or nature including, but not limited to, negligence, arising from and by reason of any and all known and unknown, foreseen and unforeseen bodily and personal injuries, damage to property, and the consequences thereof, including death, resulting from any participation in or in any way connected with or arising out of the Program, including any claim arising out of or connected with any illness or injury (minimal, serious, catastrophic and/or death)that the child may incur or sustain during the program, all activities associated with the program and while traveling to and from the site for the program whether or not the program actually occurs. I, ON MY OWN BEHALF AND ON BEHALF OF THE CHILD, HEREBY WARRANT THAT I HAVE READ THIS RELEASE OF LIABILITY IN ITS ENTIRETY AND FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS COMMENTS. I, ON MY OWN BEHALF AND ON BEHALF OF THE CHILD, AM AWARE THAT THS RELEASE OF LIABILITY RELEASES OMC FROM LIABILITY AND CONTAIN AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF MY VOLUNTARY AND KNOWING ASSUMPTION OF THE RISK OF INJURY OR ILLNESS.

Online Event Policies *
Participants in online events or programs are expected to exhibit good behavior to ensure a positive experience for everyone. At its sole discretion, Orlando Math Circle may remove a participant from an online event or program for behavioral reasons. If a participant is removed for behavioral reasons, no refund will be issued and the participant may be blocked from future online sessions. Orlando Math Circle cannot provide refunds, credits, or transfers for any reason.
Photograph Permission and Release *
This agreement applies to the Registrant(s)/Participant(s): In consideration of my wish to participate in an online event or program and related activities (collectively the “Event”) of the Orlando Math Circle, I agree: (1) that the Orlando Math Circle (or its representatives) may take photographs or video of me during my participation in the Event (“Photographs” or “Video”); (2) that I irrevocably grant the Orlando Math Circle (and its licensees and assigns) the worldwide right in perpetuity to use my name, and my likeness as depicted in the Photographs and/or Video in materials related to the Orlando Math Circle’s educational and charitable mission, including the right to reproduce, distribute, modify, and publicly display the Photographs and/or Video in any medium now known or later developed, including, promotion and fundraising for the Orlando Math Circle; and (3) on behalf of myself, my heirs, family members, and executors, I irrevocably release the Orlando Math Circle from any claim of any nature, known or unknown, that I have or ever may have (including for invasion of privacy, libel, slander, portraying me in a false light, or breach of my right of publicity) based on use of the Photographs and/or Video or my name or likeness as described. I understand that the Orlando Math Circle will rely on this release and that I may not revoke my permission or release. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida applicable to releases. In the case of a minor: I am a parent or legal guardian of the minor enrolled, and I agree that such minor and I are bound by all the terms of this release.

Orlando Math Circle Code of Conduct For Interaction with Minors
Orlando Math Circle is committed to the safety and protection of minors. Under Florida law, a minor refers to an individual who is under the age of 18. This Code of Conduct applies to all faculty volunteers, staff, volunteers and students representing Orlando Math Circle who interact with minors.

Statement of Acknowledgement and Understanding
I will:
I promise to follow the rules and guidelines in this Code of Conduct while interacting with minors who participate in Orlando Math Circle Programs or any programs that are put on by other organizations in collaboration or partnership with Orlando Math Circle.
I understand that as a person who interacts with minors under the auspices of Orlando Math Circle, I may be required to undergo a criminal history background check. The results must be acceptable to Orlando Math Circle for the purposes of interacting with minors.
I understand that if I am currently enrolled as a student at any college or university and will be interacting with minors, I may be asked to consent to a review of my disciplinary history at college or university of attendance, as well. The results of the review of student disciplinary records must be acceptable to Orlando Math Circle for purposes of working with minors.
If I am required to be alone with a minor in a qualifying Youth Program/Camp or event, I will undergo a background check prior to doing so, or will ask another adult who has already undergone a recent background check and is an Authorized Adult to join me.
I will utilize buddy systems and pursue safety in numbers, e.g. a child who needs to leave the group activity will be accompanied by another child of the same sex.
I will maintain appropriate physical boundaries at all times. I will touch children only in ways that are appropriate, public, and non-sexual.
I will treat everyone with respect, loyalty, patience, integrity, courtesy and dignity.
I will use positive reinforcement rather than criticism or comparison when working with minors.

I will not:
I will not engage in private communications with minors via written communication, text messaging, email, or social media or any other means except when related to activities involving Orlando Math Circle business, using OMC Email only.
I will not touch or speak to a minor (or minors) in a sexual or other inappropriate manner.
I will not inflict any physical or emotional abuse such as striking, humiliating, ridiculing, or degrading minors.
I will not use, possess, or be under the influence of tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs at any time while working with minors.
I will not provide transportation to a minor (or minors) unless doing so is an acknowledged component of a program and within the scope of my responsibilities within that program.
I will not accept or give gifts to minors without the knowledge of their parents or guardians.
I will not use profanity in the presence of children and/or youth at any time.

Obligation to Report Possible Abuse or Neglect of a Minor:
I understand every person, including me, has an obligation to report suspected child abuse under Florida law.
Florida law requires that ANY person in Florida who knows or has reasonable cause to suspect that a child is being abused, neglected, or abandoned by a parent, legal custodian, caregiver or other person responsible for the child's welfare MUST immediately report that knowledge or suspicion to the Florida Abuse Hotline of the Department of Children and Families. The penalty for failing to report is a felony of the third degree. There are also financial penalties for failing to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect.
If you know or suspect that a child under the age of 18 is being abused or neglected, or is at risk of being abused or neglected, you are required to report that to the Florida Abuse Hotline.
Remember, it is not your job to know whether abuse has occurred or not, IT IS YOUR JOB report your concerns!!

Volunteer Expectations
If volunteer is a minor then both parent and student volunteer must sign it.
- Volunteers are responsible for leading and facilitating classes, special events - online and in-person.
- Online: You must record the session and complete the google form with attendance, right after the class.
- The recording can be submitted within a week by the end of current week, if not submitted right after class same day due to some circumstamces.
Note that the google form must be submitted right after class and recording link should be sent to Ruth(ruth_i@orlandomathcircle.org) as soon as  it is uploaded.
- In person classes: You must submit a google form, in case of in-person class, without a recording right after class
- Must keep track of all other volunteer activity like admin, writing, videos in volunteer tracker google form located in your OMC Drive
- If you can not make your regular schedule, you need to notify the parents and reschedule the session. In case of group class, you have to attempt to find a substitute teacher by emailing a few other volunteers and cc an OMC admin. 
- If you want to lead a class you must submit a proposal to lead a class with an outline for the class at least 1 months prior to starting class.
- Volunteer can not claim the hours, if they don't have it recorded in their volunteer trackers
- In case, volunteer is teaching class, in order to claim the hours, he/she must record the class, fill the recording form and make an entry in their volunteer tracker. If there is no form or recording for the class, we will not sign off on volunteer hours for that class
- In case a volunteer is also teaching classes for which they are paid, the parent must sign an independent contractor agreement.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY: To the extent The Volunteer creates or contributes to the creation of copyrightable works of authorship in the performance of services under this Agreement, including, without limitation, all handouts, images, worksheets, brochures, posters, reports, websites, software, presentations, artwork, databases, charts, or notes (the “Work Product”), Orlando Math Circle shall own all right, title and interest in and to all Work Product. Such ownership shall inure to the benefit of Orlando Math Circle from the date of the conception, creation or fixation of the Work Product in a tangible medium of expression.  The Volunteer and Orlando Math Circle agree that all copyrightable aspects of the Work Product shall be considered a “work-made-for-hire” within the meaning of the Copyright Act of 1976, as amended.  If and to the extent the Work Product, or any part thereof, is found by a court of competent jurisdiction not to be a “work-made-for-hire” within the meaning of the Copyright Act of 1976, as amended, The Volunteer hereby expressly assigns to Orlando Math Circle all exclusive right, title and interest in and to the copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret and all other proprietary rights in and to the Work Product without further consideration, free from any claim, lien for balance due or rights or retention thereto on the part of The Volunteer.  Such assignment includes (i) all author’s rights; (ii) the right to prepare, reproduce and distribute copies of the Work Product; (iii) the right to create compilations including the Work Product; (iv) the right to create derivative works based on the Work Product; (v) all rights to causes of action or remedies related to the Work Product; and (vi) the right to assign or license the Work Product. To the extent any of The Volunteer's rights in the Work Product are not subject to assignment hereunder, The Volunteer hereby irrevocably and unconditionally waives all enforcement of such rights.
 
The Volunteer further agrees that all patent, trade secret or trademark rights, including, for example, any rights in images, designs, processes, computer programs, inventions, techniques, or names, and any derivative works created therefrom, that are developed by The Volunteer under this Agreement shall be the sole and exclusive property of Orlando Math Circle as of the date of creation or conception, and The Volunteer hereby assigns any such rights to Orlando Math Circle.
