In connection with the Svalbard Science Conference 2023 (to be held at Scandic Fornebu, Oslo, October 31 - November 1), we will once again hold a Glaciology Flagship Workshop. The event is funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
The Workshop will be at the Scandic Fornebu venue all day Thursday Nov 2, and Friday morning Nov 3, with the possibly of continuing into the afternoon, if there are enough participants. We will cover dinner Wed. evening, a more elaborate dinner Thursday, and lunch and coffee both days.
We will also be able to provide limited travel support. The exact amount will depend on how many requests there are. Priority will be given to students and early career scientists.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers from the various international groups studying Svalbard glaciology, to promote better collaboration and cooperation between the groups.
· Present ongoing research projects, both field-based and modeling.
· Discuss remote sensing techniques relevant for field programs and modelling
· Update on latest frontal ablation/calving estimates for the overall mass balance
· Innovative techniques (e.g. new sensors, SfM, UAVs, terrestrial LiDAR, etc.)
· Develop strategy for future funding of collaborative research.
· Dedicated discussion on SSF strategic objectives
