Sign Up Form: HSU faculty book circle, FA 2021 Theme: CA Indigenous Knowledge
Welcome! This form serves as the request to register for an HSU faculty book circle hosted in Fall 2021 by the Native American Studies Department and the Office of Sustainability.

This book circle will examine the text We Are the Land: A History of Native California by Damon Atkins and William Bauer Jr. We hope you will join us on Wednesday mornings for virtual critical discussions on themes in the book, including settler colonialism and white supremacy in environmental research and movements over coffee. Books and a small token gift will be provided for participants. (You do not need to purchase the book).

Timing for book circle group sessions are as follows:
Discussions 8:30 - 10:00 a.m.
10/27: Book Circle Session #1
11/3: Book Circle Session #2
11/10: Book Circle Session #3
11/17: Open Office Hours with facilitators (drop in discussion)
11/18 (evening session 5:30-7pm): Sustainable Futures Speakers Series, Dr. William Bauer author of We are the Land: A History of Native California
12/1: Book Circle Session #4

At this time we are only able to accept a limited number of participants on a first come, first served basis. Therefore, submitting this form is not confirmation of your enrollment; instead, you will receive a confirmation email from facilitators when you have been guaranteed a spot. If you do receive one of the spots but for some reason must cancel your enrollment, please email Katie Koscielak (kmk928@humboldt.edu) as soon as possible so that we may give your spot to someone else on the waitlist. Related, if you don't receive a spot you will be put on the waitlist in the order that you registered.

This book circle is an opportunity for faculty at HSU to remain at the cutting edge of sustainability, social justice, and community environmental research. All disciplines can creatively engage with this challenge. Faculty engagement with this book circle will help HSU maintain its leadership within the CSU as a campus that builds bridges between the social sciences and STEM.

Please complete the form below and contact Katie Koscielak at kmk928@humboldt.edu with any questions.

We look forward to reading with you!
