Is there an age requirement to volunteer?
Yes. Raptors are wild animals and inherently dangerous. Volunteers must be 18 years or older to participate independently. Applicants ages 16–17 may be considered on a case-by-case basis but must be accompanied by their own adult supervisor (such as a parent or guardian) at all times.

Do I need previous experience with raptors or wildlife?
No prior experience is required for most volunteer roles. Training and guidance will be provided. Much of the day-to-day work at the center involves cleaning, disinfecting enclosures and equipment, and preparing food, which are essential to maintaining the health and safety of the birds. Hands-on work with raptors may occur after volunteers gain experience and complete appropriate training.

What does a typical volunteer shift look like?
A typical volunteer shift may include food preparation, cleaning and disinfecting enclosures and equipment, and other facility tasks that support daily operations. Depending on experience and training, volunteers may also assist staff with handling birds for medical treatment, training and care of education birds, and flight conditioning.

Are there volunteer opportunities that do not involve working directly with birds?
Yes. Not all volunteer roles involve direct interaction with raptors. Volunteers may assist with facility maintenance, habitat upkeep, carpentry projects, administrative tasks, fundraising, photography, event support, education programs, and other projects that help support the center’s work. If you have a specific skill or interest you would like to contribute, please note it in the “Is there anything else you would like to add?” question on the application form.

What is the time commitment for volunteers?
Volunteers are asked to commit to at least a biweekly shift, though a weekly commitment is preferred. Typical day-to-day volunteer shifts run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Consistent participation helps volunteers become familiar with procedures and supports the ongoing care of the birds and facility.

How soon will I hear back after submitting my application?
Applications are reviewed as they are received. If your application appears to be a good fit for our current volunteer needs, we will contact you about next steps, which may include a conversation and volunteer orientation. Please allow some time for review, as our staff and volunteers are often working in the field or caring for the birds.
