We'll meet Friday, April 7th at 8:30am in the Health & Sciences Complex 2nd Floor Lobby, Building 34, for a light breakfast and brief discussion about Grossmont's innovative buildings and grounds - from building design to pathway and parking lot lighting! Following the brief overview, we will head out to clean up one of our newest 'green' elements, Bio-swales. Bio-swales are a landscape element which allow for the collection, conveyance, filtration, and infiltration of storm water, removing silt and pollution from runoff water. Cleaning up the bio-swales not only beautifies the campus, but also keeps the ground water in our community free of pollution and helps protect our sensitive ecosystem. We will remove non-native plants and trash from the bio-swales.
For comfort, participants should wear sunscreen, a hat, and durable clothing suitable for the outdoors and high temperatures. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are recommended. The ground will be uneven, so high-heeled shoes are not recommended. Please do not bring any valuables, money or personal belongings with you as we will not have facilities for safekeeping items. We will provide a light breakfast, water and necessary supplies for the project, but you may want to bring some additional snacks/beverages.
This project is appropriate for young people 14 and older, as well as adults. Children under 14 must be accompanied and assisted by an adult. Participants are required to sign liability releases, which are conveniently linked on the CSL website.
Grossmont Gives Back is organized by the Grossmont College Community Service Learning Program and Student Affairs.
