We Shape This City: an arts workshop
Friday, April 21st, 3:00PM-5:00PM, Graduate Life Center, Room F.
We are all natural born urban planners. When decisions are made about the communities we live, work and play in, how do our needs and narratives get considered?
We Shape This City is an arts workshop that explores themes of belonging, displacement, and spatial justice through creative expression. Drawing on dance, visual art, and theater practices, we'll build connections between these ideas and our stories. You may be interested in this workshop if you are curious about the role of the arts to help us look at civic processes and structural inequities anew.
Space is limited, so we ask that anyone who would like to attend register using this form. We Shape This City is open to people of all backgrounds, especially people who do not consider themselves artists. Join us for a restorative moment to kick off your weekend.
We will have happy hour-style snacks when you arrive. Please wear clothing you feel comfortable moving and using art materials in. The workshop is experiential.
Led by Andreza Jorge (dance,
Mulheres ao Vento
),
Hiromi Okumura
(visual/performance), and
C. Meranda Flachs-Surmanek
(theater/urban planning).
This workshop is supported by the 2023 Diversity Scholars program out of the Office of Recruitment, Diversity, and Inclusion.
