You are invited to participate in a research study led by Joel Gardner from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. The goal of the study is to understand the ways in which people who work to mitigate existential risk engage with cause-specific communities and how they sustain their motivation and overcome obstacles in their work. We are inviting you to participate in this study because of your work in AI safety or biosecurity. Your participation is completely voluntary. If you agree to be in this study, we would ask you to participate in one confidential interview via Zoom lasting an average of 45–60 minutes.
The purpose of the study is to gain insights from people who work to mitigate existential risk about the challenges they face and how they persist in their work. The primary goal will be generating new theory in the field of organizational behavior. The study will also likely produce insights that will be valuable to the field of x-risk mitigation more broadly, and a summary of the results (including some anonymized quotes) will likely be published on the EA Forum.
