RSVP Oct. 23 lecture on EU Big Tech Laws: An Emerging Public Utilities Regulation 11:00AM–12:00PM in Law 244
Berkeley Law students, faculty, visiting scholars, staff, and the wider UC Berkeley campus community are warmly invited to an expert talk featuring Prof. Alexandre de Streel, Academic Director at the Brussels think-tank Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE) and Professor of European Union law at the University of Namur, where he chairs the Namur Digital Institute (NADI). He is also visiting professor at the College of Europe (Bruges) and SciencesPo Paris. Prof. de Streel also chairs the expert group on the online platform economy advising the European Commission and is a part-time judge at the Belgian Competition Authority. His main research areas are regulation and competition policy in the digital economy (telecommunications, platforms and data) as well as the legal issues raised by the developments of artificial intelligence. His talk examines whether the new EU Big Tech regulations—the Digital Markets Act and the Digital Services Act—can be interpreted as a form of public utilities regulation. Moderated by Prof. Katerina Linos, Co-Faculty Director of the Miller Institute and Heyman Professor of International Law at UC Berkeley.

Light refreshments provided for those attending. RSVP via this form or email to <MGCL@law.berkeley.edu>.

Thursday, October 23, 11AM–12PM in Room 244, Berkeley Law. For more information or accommodations, please contact Toni Mendicino, tmendicino@law.berkeley.edu or 510-643-7969.  Sponsored by the Miller Institute for Global Challenges and the Law and cosponsored by Berkeley Journal of International Law.
