Prisoners Literature Project - volunteering interest?
Please fill out this form if you would like to help send books to folks behind bars. Please read the following information carefully before submitting your form.

OUR WAITING LIST IS NOW SEVERAL MONTHS LONG. Volunteering opportunities are limited and in high demand, so you may not hear back from us straightaway. Rest assured that we will contact you as soon as you get to the top of the waiting list. 

A few other important points:

(1) We are no longer holding 'open sessions.' So please only come to our library if you have received an email confirmation that you are enrolled in a particular session. At this time we are no longer able to accommodate special volunteering sessions for workplaces, schools, and other service groups.

(2) Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Every individual volunteer must fill out a separate volunteer interest form and register separately for volunteer sessions.

(3) We ask that volunteers commit to being punctual and attending the entire 3-hour session that they sign up for.

(4) If you have not heard back from us after several months, please do not fill out this form a second time. Instead, check your spam folders and mark any emails from Salesforce, prisonlit@gmail.com or Calendly as "not junk."

PLP VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES - Please read carefully:

Members of our volunteer community are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

1.   Show up for all sessions that you sign up for.  

2.   Make cancellations only if unavoidable. Use the Calendly app, and cancel as far in advance as possible.

3.   Arrive punctually and stay for the entire session.

4.   Pay keen attention to detail, for example on address labels, invoices and prison-specific restrictions.

5.   Write legibly.

6.   Diligently align your book choices to the patron’s request. (If you are unsure, ask the coordinators. They are there to help.)

7.  Abide by our illness protocol.*

8.   Listen to coordinators and accept feedback openly and constructively.

9.   Contribute to a culture of mutual respect and positive engagement.

PLP reserves the right to disenroll volunteers at any time and for any reason, at our sole discretion.

*ILLNESS PROTOCOL: We kindly ask that volunteers stay home if they are currently sick, are recovering from an illness and still have any residual symptoms, and/or have recently been exposed to COVID or another illness.
