On Sunday 10/6/24 we have a playtest happening between 2:15-5:30pm.
🎮What's to prepare for? Do I need gaming experience? We'll explain everything and no prior gaming experience is required! It's really useful for us to have folks with a variety of prior knowledge levels to test how accessible our gameplay is. Just know that during the session you'll be learning some rules, rolling some dice, and making decisions with your group of players while mostly sitting (or dramatically standing if you're into that kind of thing) at a table. For this playtest there may be a few moments where you are doing some light, no-acting-required roleplaying of an individual character, as well as some moments you may be asked to move around the room to different stations.
🙋🏽Who is this for? Space Opera is for anyone who wants to work towards a better world together. Anyone age 16+ is welcome. You'll probably vibe with this at different levels if you're into any mix of participatory theater, organizing, democratic group process, sci-fi and fantasy media, tabletop roleplaying games, or LARPing. Space Opera particularly works to make space for queer and BIPOC artists, worker, nerds, and organizers - identities that our team also hold.
🔎Been to a playtest before and want to know what we're working on this time? Glad you asked!! We've spent a long time on the "societal phase" of Space Opera game play and will be moving on to testing some other key parts of the game, such as how civilizations change between days of play in longer sessions.
🔨 Is this a work-in-progress? Yep! Space Opera is premiering in June of 2025--these playtests are stripped down experiences of the core gameplay to give us information on what's working and what isn't. Stay tuned for more through our website, Instagram, or email list.

💵 Cost for attending a playtest is Free but we will have a QR code event where can accept donations should you want to contribute some money to the experience.
🏰The playtests will be happening at a ExCITE Center 3401 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
🕰️ From 2:15-2:30 we'll be arriving and doing COVID testing, with gameplay and feedback happening from 2:30-5:30pm.
🦽 Accessibility: Elevators and ADA compliant restrooms available
🍲Food: We will not be serving snacks at the playtest, but you're welcome to bring your own. We just ask that snacks are eaten while stepped away or out of the room from other players to preserve COVID safety.
🌡️ Temperature: Unfortunately, we don't have full control of the building's heat. We will do our best to make sure that AC is turned on, but be prepared that this may not be the case. Dress lightly and bring a layer!
🦠COVID Safety: Masks and a negative test within 24 hours of the event required. We will have tests on hand or can accept a photo of a negative test within the 24 hours prior to the event.
