For more than four years, Opportunity Hub, the nation's largest minority owned inclusive innovation, entrepreneurship and investment building platform, has worked to develop a diverse highly-skilled innovative talent pool that we prepare to enter the workforce with unique experiences, hard technical and business skills and the mindset to work on solving the planet's most pressing problems. In 2015, we merged with TechSquare Labs; and today, we're building a team to expand globally via Opportunity Ecosystem. As an early exposure initiative, we launched HBCU@SXSW at South by SouthWest (SXSW), one of the largest innovation conferences and festivals on the planet. In 2015, more than 84,385 attendees experienced amazing keynotes, hundreds of panels and exclusive networking opportunities that provide buzz-generating exposure and opportunities to engage with decision makers in the innovation economy. For the second year, we are partnering with SXSW as an official program partner to produce a series of events and experiences during their Interactive Festival, EDU Conference and Job Market.
Selected participants will maintain a rigorous and immersive daily itinerary from March 10-12. Participants will maximize their opportunities to learn, network and engage with some of the world’s top innovators, entrepreneurs and investors.
Participants will attend SXSW Interactive workshops, panels and conversations and pitch competitions; and network at curated events designed for maximum exposure, education, and engagement with innovators, entrepreneurs and investors at the intersection of tech, entertainment and culture.
Participants will connect with potential employers for summer internships, apprenticeships and full time employment. For instance, Snapchat will be reviewing applications prior to HBCU@SXSW and will be offering jobs opportunities on the spot.
Opportunity Last year we sponsored 50 minority college students to go to SXSW.
This year our goal is to sponsor 500 of the top minority engineering, computer science, innovative and entrepreneurially-minded talent from HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and PWI's (Predominantly White Institutions) across America.
Accepted students receive a SXSW Interactive badge and all expenses paid trip to Austin, TX. Travel and housing are provided.
The cost to sponsor a student is $3,000.00 US.

For consideration for acceptance in the 2018 cohort, students must be an African American or Latinx American college student, preferably, but not exclusive, enrolled in a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) or Minority Serving Institutions (MSI). We also encourage minorities at Predominantly White Institutions (PWI's) to apply as well.

Students will also be required to submit a resume and references from the engineering, entrepreneurial or innovator lead at their college or university; and influencers in their community. Per our growing list of corporate partners, selection will be determined by declared degree program, coding skills, sales skills, business development skills, marketing skills, project management and agile skills and ultimately your ability to communicate how you will add value to the innovation economy after SXSW and beyond.
