Climate Change and Infrastructure Risk Assessment - The PIEVC Protocol
Course starting January 20, 2021!
This online training provides participants with information about, and practice with the PIEVC Protocol, a practical tool and process that supports the systematic assessment of the risks of extreme weather and future climate in relation to public infrastructure. Developed by Engineers Canada in partnership with Natural Resources Canada, the Protocol is a structured procedure using standard risk assessment processes to assess and fully document the vulnerability of infrastructure to the impacts of current and future climate at a screening level, and related risks.
This online training will be of interest to engineers and other infrastructure professionals who are involved in policy, planning, procurement, pre-design, design, operation, maintenance, management and regulation of infrastructure and who, now and in the future, need to consider the changing climate for these activities.
PIEVC Protocol is one of four courses comprising the Infrastructure Resilience Professional (IRP) credentialling program available to professional engineers. Those who take the course for IRP credentialling will complete quizzes and a final exam to confirm learning outcomes have been reached. It consists of five (5) two-hour modules delivered through an on-line video-enabled webinar platform. Presentations and exercises illustrate real life applications through hands-on, small group exercises using a case study approach that includes developing strategies and recommendations to address identified climate vulnerabilities.
