We are thrilled that you will be applying to the Young Artist's Competition. It is an incredible opportunity to perform as a soloist with a live symphony orchestra.
We believe in the encouragement and cultivation of the next generation of musicians to preserve the art of classical music and strengthen the musical community.
Two applicants will be selected (one junior and one senior) for the chance to perform with live orchestra and for a bursary of $200.
The competition is open to orchestral instruments (woodwind, brass, percussion, and strings), harp, piano, and voice.
• Junior instrumental applicants must be no older than 15 as of August 31, 2018 • Junior vocal applicants must be no older than 18 as of August 31, 2018
• Senior instrumental applicants must be no older than 26 years of age as of August 31, 2018
• Senior vocal applicants must be no older than 29 as of August 31, 2018
Applicants will be judged according to their age. One junior applicant and one senior applicant will be selected to perform with the orchestra.
Applicants must... • Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, or have studied with a teacher in Canada for at least two years. • Reside or study or have resided in Ontario, Canada. • Be recommended by their teachers.
Music Selection Requirements:
The applicant must select one or more movements of a concerto, or a one-movement composition originally composed for their instrument or voice and orchestra. The orchestral accompaniment must bereadily available in print (subject to approval by the symphony librarian) and the total performance time should notexceed 15 minutes in length.
The recording may be submitted on CD or other digital media such as a USB drive, SD card, or may be provided as a link to online media. Physical media will only be returned if a stamped self-addressed envelope is included with the application.

Audition Procedure - Applicants must submit the following: 1) An application form 2) $35 application fee 3) A recording of yourself playing the selected music with piano accompaniment (unless you are a pianist).
