Nominations will be accepted by the Nebraska State Literacy Association Educator Recognition Committee. Nebraska area. The nominee should be active in reading and/or literacy beyond the classroom.
The award is not limited to reading teachers. Content area teachers, coaches, administrators and other educators are also eligible.
The nomination sent forward to the state should include a biography that focuses on literacy events in the nominee’s life and specifies on how the nominee has enhanced literacy in the classroom, school, community, state, and beyond.
Nominations must consist of a detailed statement making the case for the award. Where possible, evidence of excellence in teaching over a number of years should be included, as well as some detail about the nominee’s approach to teaching/education, especially in the area of literacy.
There will be only one educator in the state awarded the honor of “NSLA Distinguished Educator of Literacy” each year.
The NSLA Distinguished Educator of Literacy will be honored at the annual NSLA Literacy Institute.
The honoree receives one conference registration and two tickets to the awards luncheon. They are responsible for all expenses related to transportation and accommodations.
