You’re invited! Dave and Julie Blakesley will host a festival and pool party to celebrate the conclusion of the 12th Triennial Conference of the Kenneth Burke Society at their home in Anderson on Sunday, May 25 from 2pm until sundown. Kids and guests are welcome. There's no hard start time. We'll have drinks and snacks until more enticing fare rolls out around 5pm.
Why a festival? RCID students and faculty have worked many hours to host a great virtual conference and deserve a rousing send-off into the summer. Many presented at the conference. We want to celebrate with friends and colleagues in RCID, Interdisciplinary Studies, and the broader Clemson and Burke community. We'll have games, water balloons, and more to keep everyone entertained and eloquent in an outdoor Burkeian parlor.
Food/Beverages: Bring a favorite dish/snack/dessert to share if you can. We’ll provide BBQ, buns, potato salad, Coleslaw, vegetarian baked beans, vegan pasta salad, vegan lettuce salad, peach cobbler and whatever else we dream up (fruit and relish plates probably). We'll have soft drinks, lemonade, iced tea, seltzers, beer, and wine. If you have favorite beverages, bring 'em.
The pool will be ready, so bring a towel if you want to swim. We’ll have floats. Kids can swim, too, but keep an eye on your little ones.
Our sponsor and host is Parlor Press. You'll be at the home base, so everyone will have a chance to browse the inventory and receive a 50% discount on any books on hand.
So that we can make plans, please let us know if you're coming! If you're bringing kids, let us know how many and their ages so that we can welcome them with fun stuff.
