The school district requires at least three General Education staff members to be certified in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, along with behavior support and Exceptional Children staff. The training focuses on recognizing crisis behavioral levels and appropriate staff reactions. Participants learn verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques for handling aggressive students safely, while also establishing a therapeutic connection after the crisis. The full-day training includes a written exam and successful completion of physical disengagements, and grants a 2-year certification with the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
