CIE Ambassador Application

Participating in this program is an excellent opportunity for students to get professional development while engaging in the international community at SSU. Students will be a part of a 10-12 Ambassador team in the Center for International Education (CIE). To apply, students must be current SSU students who are CSU IP, NSE, and NSE Study Abroad Alumni, or international and international/domestic exchange students at SSU.

There are three different Ambassador positions, descriptions to follow.
- Ambassadors (SPOTS AVAILABLE)
- Ambassador Committee Chairs (POSITIONS AVAILABLE)
- Lead Ambassador (Position filled for Fall 2017)

The Center for International Education commits to:
• Respect academic priorities of students by putting school commitments first
• Provide Ambassadors an opportunity to learn in an environment that will both challenging and supportive.
• Assist Ambassadors in learning necessary skills and experience for the individual’s professional development

Participation Benefits
A benefit of being an Ambassador is that students will be able to receive internship units, either by enrolling in UNIV 295 or internship units within their major department for participating in the program. The Ambassador program also has a three-committee structure to ensure students receive a variety of professional and leadership experiences.

Opportunities for professional development are built into the program. For example, at the weekly Ambassador Team Meetings, Ambassadors will participate in discussions and workshops focusing on developing professional skills. Examples of workshops that students could participate in:
• Professional Leadership: working in groups, handling conflict, leadership styles, etc.
• Computer skill proficiency utilizing various software and online programs including social media
• Career development: job search preparation, resume building, interview skills
• Workplace expectations and performance: behavior, using constructive criticism, etc.

Benefits of being an Ambassador include:
• Students will meet and interact with international and other internationally minded students on campus
• Students will acquire internship units
• There will be opportunities for professional development and growth, including moving into paid positions
• Excellent resume building opportunities and skills
• Build connections and receive information on future career options and receive recommendations for future jobs
• Have fun planning/attending events and hanging out with students
