In The Bengali, Asian American filmmaker Kavery Kaul takes an American woman on a journey to India to uncover the past of her grandfather, a stranger from a faraway land. Along the way, the film reveals the little-known story of early South Asian men who came to the United States and built lives with African American women. As a descendant of this intertwined history, she embarks on a personal exploration of family, memory, and connection across continents.
