20:00 – 22:00 Get-Together

Minerals and metals are essential for the functioning of modern societies. The aspect of sustainability in mining becomes more important today, not least as environmental as well as social concerns are often obstacles. Mining provides great economic opportunities for resource-rich as well as for mining supply chain countries. However, the process of mining creates challenges and risks for the well-being of people and the environment. Therefore, responsible corporate governance and investments are required in order to manage the upcoming challenges and manage mining in a way that contributes to – and does not jeopardize – sustainable development.

We are proud to announce a keynote speech of Mr Pierre Gratton, President & CEO of the Mining Association of Canada (MAC), who will talk to us about Sustainable Mining (TSM). It is a set of tools and indicators to drive performance and ensure that key mining risks are managed responsibly. Adhering to the principles of TSM, members of MAC demonstrate leadership by engaging with communities, driving world-leading environmental practices, and committing to the safety and health of employees and surrounding communities.

Also a number of German companies already announced their participation. German companies have large experience in international mining and naturally transfer German mining experience and sustainability standards to foreign countries.

With the current demand of technology minerals such as nickel, cobalt, Tungsten, Lithium, Manganese and others, the options for sourcing the minerals from elsewhere than from mining are limited when increasing e-mobility. Thus, it is now important to strengthen the mining position and make it watertight with regard to the sustainability aspect.

Larger industrial consumers of minerals are more and more obliged to look for sustainability within their supply chains. Especially those not knowing their mineral sources are well advised to take a closer look after it. The best way to do so is self engagement and own investments into sustainable mining. The topic of the conference is to show the opportunities growing from that framework for miners, financing institutions and users (off-takers) of raw materials. We ask all interested parties to send us their papers to be presented at our conference latest till 1st Oct.2019.

In particular we require the following topics to be covered:

• Company/industry needs and strategies to manage the challenges
• Mineral markets overview
• Development of mining projects for industry supplies (advanced mining projects)
• Mineral Trading, Investment possibilities in Mineral Projects
