Applying for a WNYU Music Show
WNYU is an entirely student-run radio station, broadcasting Monday through Friday, 4 PM to 1 AM on 89.1 FM and 24/7 on Undergraduates and graduates can apply for a two-hour themed online music radio show.
Those interested in doing a news or entertainment podcast should check out the WNYU News website and submit proposals to

We recommend you glance through some of our current programming and the long list of guests who have rolled through the station. We hope you'll find an eclectic mix of underrepresented music from a variety of cultures/subcultures, from tropicália to the Delta blues, grindcore to independent hip-hop, cosmic disco to roots reggae.

Ideal show proposals often hone in on a genre, location, time period, movement, mood or ethic and dedicate a weekly two hours to exploring these ideas. Sending more than one proposal isn't just allowed, it's encouraged! This semester, we are specifically seeking applications that focus on a branch of funk, soul, free jazz, metal, classical, avant-garde, and Latin American, African and Asian sub-regions and genres, but we are always looking for creative applications, even if they do not fall into these parameters.

No radio experience is required! After receiving the spring semester's proposals, we will contact selected parties and you will be trained in station equipment and procedure. You will record a demo of your show and, after receiving notes and guidance from our net radio management team, you will start your show.

All applications for the fall semester are due on Sunday, September 16, 2018, in all departments.

WNYU takes its mission to be an educational and alternative programmer seriously -- this means we are selective in our application process, but this shouldn't freak you out! Send an e-mail to and we'll field questions and help brainstorm.
