2021 Season - AVCA Grant Application
INTRODUCTION

CEVA will award grants to coaches from the region who wish to attend the AVCA Convention. The 2021 AVCA Convention runs from December 15-18 in Columbus, OH – in conjunction with the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Final Four. Grants will be for a minimum of $500.00.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring receipt of grant money for this purpose does not conflict or violate any rules/policies they are subject to in their coaching or professional associations (i.e., NCAA rules).

Preference for this grant will be given to coaches from diverse populations, coaches who have never attended the convention before, coaches who participate in CEVA’s youth clinic series in Portland, and/or coaches who primarily serve an under-served or underrepresented demographic. None of these factors will be used to solely decide a grant winner. Coaches must be current members of the CEVA region and have eligibility requirements complete.

CLUB PARTNERSHIP

Clubs will nominate individual coaches from their club to receive a grant, and funds will be distributed directly to the clubs (not individuals). Club Directors will be required to submit the final grant application once all information is compiled. Applications will ask for information from both the coach and club director.

USE OF FUNDS

Grants will be dispersed following the Convention – likely in the first week of January – and can be used as reimbursement for items below. Use of funds for anything outside of this list requires approval of the CEVA office. Grant winners will be granted a complimentary one-year membership to the AVCA by the region.

- Convention registration (virtual or in-person)
- Advanced Career Education (ACE) programming (if available)
- Pre-convention seminar registration
- Flight costs to Columbus
- Hotel costs in Columbus

Funds may not be used for any of the following:

- NCAA match tickets
- Parties, socials, get-togethers (unless included as part of standard convention registration)

INITIAL GRANT SUBMISSION PROCESS

Grant applications will be available on September 1st via the CEVA website. Applications are due by 3:00 PM on Friday, October 1st. This includes the information outlined in the application form below. If a grant is awarded, clubs will be notified no later than Friday, October 15th.

AFTER THE CONVENTION & FUND ALLOCATION

Following the Convention, the club and coach must submit the following information, no later than 3:00 PM on January 7th, by e-mail to Cody March (cody@cevaregion.org):

- Club director – receipts for expenses the grant is intended to cover (i.e., convention registration receipt, travel receipts, etc.)

- Coach – a minimum 400-word write-up answering the following questions:
>> List some of the educational sessions you attended, and what you gained by attending those sessions.
>> List some of the new people you met or had conversations with, and what you gained from those interactions.
>> What did you gain from your experience at the convention that you can bring back to your club and help make your club or team better?
>> Would you go back to the convention again if given the opportunity? Would you encourage other coaches in your club to attend if given the opportunity?

Additionally, we will ask the grant recipient(s) to take part in one Diversity & Inclusion Committee meeting upon returning from the Convention.
