Attend Convocation
Illinois Tech’s Convocation will be at the end of Welcome Week this year on Friday, August 16, at 1 p.m. in Hermann Hall Auditorium. Convocation, along with Commencement, bookends the college experience for our students. By attending Convocation, you demonstrate your pride in Illinois Tech and help assure our new and returning students that our university is a supportive and welcoming place.
This year’s Convocation will include an official academic procession into the auditorium with our deans, followed by inspiring speeches from university leaders. Reserved seating for faculty and staff will be provided inside the auditorium. Faculty will not be asked to wear academic regalia for this year’s festivities. All we ask is that you attend and show your support!
At the end of the ceremony, we will recognize our new students with an “applause recession,” where all new students will leave Hermann Hall through a “tunnel” of faculty, staff, and returning students, applauding and cheering for the new class.
Attend the Student Organization Involvement Fair
One of the benefits of having Convocation on the Friday of Welcome Week is that our returning student leaders are back and ready to recruit new students to their organizations. Immediately after Convocation, all of our registered student organizations will be out and about displaying their accomplishments and sharing information about their initiatives and projects. Keeping with the excitement of engaging our new students with our returning students, there will also be performances by The Great DuBois, miniature golf, and inflatable attractions. Get to know new students and reconnect with returning leaders while enjoying the final day before classes begin
Thank you for the time and talent you bring to Illinois Tech, and for showing your support to our students and their families.
Sincerely,
Katherine Stetz, Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
