Civil War Living History Permission Slip for 7th Graders
Dear Seventh Grade Families,

From Tuesday, May 17th 2022 through Friday, May 20th 2022, your child will be spending their social studies class periods learning about the experiences of soldiers during the Civil War using hands-on activities developed by IMS social studies teachers in collaboration with the Living History Foundation (http://www.livinghistoryed.org/).

As social studies teachers, our challenge is to transform American history into a curriculum, which is both educational and exciting to students.  It is our belief that the best way to teach is to interest them, to give them responsibility, and to provide them with an experience which they will remember. Some of the activities we have planned include:

-Learning to set up Civil War tents.
-Experiencing daily life of enlisted soldiers.
-Going through some steps of basic training like marching in formation.
-Examining real Civil War artifacts.
-Learning colloquiums of the 19th century and Civil War.
-Listening to Civil War music.

Outdoor student activities will be held on:
-Tuesday, May 17th and Thursday, May 19th for Ms. Mitchell and Ms. Rios’s students during social studies classes.
-Wednesday, May 18th and Friday, May 20th for Ms. Zeese’s students during social studies classes.

While we are committed to learning about the Civil War in exciting and fun ways, it is imperative that students are appropriate and safe at all times.  Thus, we must strictly adhere to the requirements below.  Kindly complete the below Google Form by Friday, May 13th to give your child permission to participate in the program. Thank you.

Huzzah,
Ms. Mitchell, Ms. Zeese, and Ms. Rios
