In order to make the volcano accessible to ALL youth from around the region, the Mount St. Helens Institute offers reduced-rate and fee-waived programs for schools and youth groups that qualify. Financial assistance is only possible through the support of our generous foundations, supporters and individual donors.
Each school/group is evaluated individually, based on the needs of the group.
All groups receiving financial assistance must have a financial assistance application on file in the same school year in which the program occurs, beginning August 1 and ending July 31.
Please note, the MAXIMUM financial assistance we can provide for groups is $4999 within each annual fiscal year.
All groups receiving financial assistance must be able to provide a W9 for their organization.
Transportation Reimbursement is available for groups who qualify and are registered for programs. After your field trip is completed, you can submit the form, which will be included with your registration materials. Qualifying schools will receive reimbursement for the cost of school bus or transportation up to $600 per bus or $12/person (whichever is less). Availability of funding is limited by our grant funding and is not guaranteed.
Funds are limited and funding will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The Mount St. Helens Institute will reply to your application within 2 weeks during open registration period. During our program season (April - November) our staff are busy working programs and take more time to respond. Please reach out to us directly by emailing
learn@mshinstitute.org if you have any questions. Sometimes our emails are filtered to spam, please reach out if you think that you are not receiving emails from us.
