Seeking dancers interested in studying the art and technique of ISADORA DUNCAN. Young students are strongly encourage to participate.
FILL OUT THIS FORM BY MARCH 20 TO SECURE YOUR SPOT.
This 8-week, 3 hours a week workshop is for dancers curious about discovering or re-visiting the technique of Isadora Duncan, in conjunction with learning a masterful repertory piece.
Working from breath and the solar plexus as our initiatory center, this class is designed to introduce the dancer to the style of Duncan, an original thinker and cultural/artistic phenomenon, who fanned the flames of modernism 100 years ago. This authentic material is examined and informed by a contemporary perspective reflecting the dance/movement backgrounds of the instructor, bringing additional support and inspiration to your current technique.
The class uses imagery improvisation, features a contemporary take on Duncan's classic warm-up, and moves through rhythmic and locomotive patterns, culminating in danced phrase works. Come share a living history of modern dance and gain a physical and intellectual perspective on the origins of contemporary theater and dance.
The workshop is divided in a 90 min open technique class followed by the learning of repertory works by Isadora Duncan to be presented in an open rehearsal at the end of our 8-week course. Technique class is open to all, but full workshop will be offered only to a limited number of dancers. Sign up quickly to secure your spot. Dancers who sign up for the full workshop are expected to attend all 8 weeks.
This is an intermediate to advanced
workshop: no prior knowledge of Duncan technique is necessary, however, dancers
should be prepared to sustain moderate to heavy aerobic movements and
locomotion.
