Are You Ready for the Arctic Circle Trail?

A Self-Assessment for Safe, Responsible Hiking in Greenland’s Wilderness

The Arctic Circle Trail (ACT) is one of the most stunning and remote long-distance hikes on Earth — but it’s also quite challenging. There are no roads, no resupply points, no phone service, and possibly no other people for days. You’re entirely on your own — and that’s both the beauty and the challenge of it.

This quiz is designed to help you honestly assess your preparedness across the essential skills and experience needed to complete the trail safely, responsibly, and confidently.

Although the quiz is geared toward summer hikers, most of the same guidance applies—if not more urgently—to winter adventurers, when extreme cold dramatically increases the risk of serious injury or death. Make sure you read our ACT winter expeditions pages to understand the risks.

💬 How it works:

You’ll be asked a series of 7 questions covering essential skills like self-supported hiking, navigation, first aid, emergency readiness, mental resilience, and environmental responsibility.

After each question, you’ll receive instant feedback based on your answer — including helpful tips and resources if you're not quite there yet.

🙏 Be honest with yourself

This isn’t a test — it’s a planning tool. The ACT is a serious undertaking, and the more realistic you are about your current skills, the better prepared you’ll be. That means more confidence, more safety, and more enjoyment when you hit the trail.

It also means you won't place additional strain on Greenland's limited Search and Rescue resources. Keep in mind that if something goes wrong, you are your own first responder—rescue efforts may be delayed due to weather or other emergencies.

That’s why preparation isn’t optional — it’s essential.

So take this quiz seriously. And if you discover you’re not ready yet, that’s totally fine — it just means you’ve found your starting point.
