The Indigenous Institute of the Americas invites you to join us for Gourd Dance on Friday, March 31st, from 4 pm to 9 pm at the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum. Our organization has several Gourd Dancers and Veterans on our planning committee, making this event a wonderful opportunity to reunite families and friends.
Our Youth Pow Wow begins Saturday Morning with Opening Ceremony and Grand Entry, Line up at 9:45 am, with 10:15 am start time. Our competition will include tiny tots to young adults who are enrolled in any form of education post high school (up to age 25). We have cash and prizes so it should be fun for everyone.
Youth pow wow contestants will receive community service credit hours for their time at the event. Please also let us know if they will come dressed out on Sunday for Exhibition dancing. We believe our youth should get credit for their schools and future colleges to recognize their talents. More details on Youth Pow Wow rules can be found at:
https://iiamericas.org/youth-pow-wow/This year, our event will not have an adult or golden years competition division but we welcome adult and youth dancers who would like to dress out and participate in demonstration dances, Inter-tribal, and social dances. As a nonprofit we do not pay our volunteers but can show our appreciation with a meal and free admission if you sign up before March 11th (this gives us time to mail you wristbands)
This is not a Pow Wow appropriate for hobbyist dancers but it is open to the public and we welcome audience participation in the Inter-tribal dances. We ask that dancers who are hobbyist, contact our Pow Wow committee at
iiamericas.org@gmail.com before coming dressed in regalia as we want to create an atmosphere that supports our Native people. We thank you for your consideration.
