The First Baptist School of Charleston was established as a mission of the First Baptist Church of Charleston in 1949, under the direction of Dr. John A. Hamrick, Sr. Sixty-eight years later, First Baptist School continues to advance the mission of Academic Excellence with a Christian Perspective. The Head of School is responsible for leading and ensuring the ongoing stability and growth of FBS by effectively executing the vision and mission of the school. The Head of School will accomplish this by developing and cultivating appropriate stakeholder relationships within the school, accreditation organizations, church, and local community.

Located on the Lower Peninsula within the area of the original walled city, FBS enjoys a well-earned reputation as one of the oldest and most respected schools in Charleston and is strategically situated to use the city itself as an extended classroom. Whether it is for history, science, photography, or to walk down Longitude Lane to Hazel Park playground for recess, students explore the historic area on a regular basis. While rooted in a proud history, FBS is also looking to the future and will soon be breaking ground on a new Upper School building on James Island where there is already a recently completed fine arts and athletic center. A Campus Master Plan also calls for a new Lower School building on the downtown campus.
