MSLS Thesis Topic Suggestions

We are looking for interesting thesis topics for our MSLS students. The thesis is written in groups between the end of January and the end of May each year. The students┬┤ thesis will need to demonstrate their competence in Strategic Sustainable Development. This includes being able to:

1) demonstrate an understanding of the interconnectedness of the various sustainability issues into one overarching challenge (i.e the sustainability challenge); and

2) demonstrate the ability to make an argument for why a whole-systems perspective is needed to address the sustainability challenge; and

3) demonstrate the ability to situate a smaller topic in the larger global context and the sustainability challenge (i.e. the inter-system analysis); and

4) demonstrate the ability to make an argument for why a principle-based definition of sustainability is useful, and

5) if appropriate,
- demonstrate the ability to apply the 8 sustainability principles to assess a product or process
- apply or make the case for backcasting from (principles of) success
- demonstrate the ability to apply the FSSD as a framework for analysis or part of a conceptual framework for analysis
- demonstrate the ability to use strategic prioritization questions
- demonstrate the ability to select appropriate tools or to make recommendations for improvement or combination of tools

If you have a topic that may be of interest, please fill out the questionnaire below. We are looking for topics that are well-bounded and doable in the time frame (e.g. a very concrete question, target audience or partner organization).

Thank you,

The MSLS programme team
