Artist Declaration for Climate - Sign Up
"Artists are some of the world's most creative thinkers and greatest problem solvers. Why wouldn't you want us in a room with policymakers talking about climate change?" - Lisa Russell, Founder, Create2030
JOIN US AND SIGN THE FIRST-EVER ARTIST DECLARATION FOR CLIMATE!
OVERVIEW:
Last year, on September 23, 2019, the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres hosted the Climate Action Summit in New York with the objective of boosting ambition and rapidly accelerating action to implement the Paris Agreement. The Secretary-General called on all actors to help with this objective.
During that Summit, Create2030's network of international artists drafted the first-ever Artist Declaration on Climate. During the 2020 Climate Week and UN General Assembly, we are encouraging Artist Delegations to attend various online events, create artwork and share the declaration for additional signees.
WHY ARTISTS:
- The creative economy is one of the most rapidly growing sectors of the world economy. (SDG Fund)
- Cultural and creative industries are major drivers of economies by capitalizing US $2,250 billion and creating 29.5 million jobs globally. (SDG Fund)
- The creative economy is an “asset for diplomacy and foreign policy” that could play a role in achieving the SDGs. (World Conference on Creative Economy)
THE THREE TENENTS OF ARTISTIC ENGAGEMENT:
As artists, we commit to:
1) Using our talents to raise the global conversation on the urgent need for climate action.
2) Practicing our art form in a sustainable manner.
3) Partnering with UN agencies, Member States, academic, private sectors, and others on climate action.
