If you are pre-product/users/rev, you should still tell us that you've been speaking to potential users as part of your design process - who and how many? Or, justify that you are an expert and know the problem inside and out.
If you are literally just starting - say so. But your number one job should be talking to customers to validate your assumptions, and updating us with your findings as you move forwards.
