If you have previously participated in a YWiC summer intensive and/or after school program, we want you to explore your imagination and challenge yourself to deepen your programming knowledge! Are you ready to create, build and learn to program in a fun and friendly environment?

Spend 9 weeks diving deeper into your program learning.

This YWiC after-school program is for young women in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade, who have previously participated in a YWiC summer intensive and/or after-school program.

NMSU's Computer Science and Young Women in Computing summer intensives are tailored to achieve four major goals:

1) Build community among young women through computing;
2) Increase young women's interest in computing;
3) Gain knowledge and experience with programming languages; &
4) Drastically increase young women's confidence in Computer Science.

Each goal is achieved through specific sets of activities implemented in our after-school programs. Participants utilize computational thinking through a variety of interactive software tools. These tools, along with team building, career exploration, and leadership activities, show students that computer science is a fun, creative, engaging, and rewarding field!

NMSU is a nationally ranked Carnegie Foundation research institution with top performing programs and services. We strive for excellence in all areas of teaching and learning and work to identify best practices for continued success. All participants will engage in this process via pre- and post-assessments, entry and exit interviews, daily surveys, and other data gathering methods.

After-school programs are presented by the outreach team in the Department of Computer Science at NMSU! Instructors are accomplished NMSU students studying computer science and electrical engineering. We utilize near-peer mentors as educators to build strong connections between participants and the exciting world of CS.

Acceptance into this program is based on first entry and is not a competitive process. The application will remain open until all slots are filled.

We can't wait to see you apply your programming experience and creativity!
