Hello neighbors! Whose Books & Better Block are teaming up to host "Community & Conversation" a three part series exploring topics in neighborhood development and design. Topics of exploration and discussion are pulled from the book "A Pattern Language", which centers on the idea that people should design for themselves.

We want your feedback on topics to discuss. Share your interest and save the date!

Green Streets: There is too much hard asphalt in the world.

Road Crossing: Where paths cross roads, the cars have power to frighten & subdue the people walking.

Bike Path & Racks: Bikes on the roads are threatened by cars; bikes on the paths are threatened pedestrians.

Old People Everywhere: Old people and young people need each other.

Sacred Sites: People cannot maintain their spiritual roots and their connections to the past if the physical world they live in does not also sustain the these roots.

Access to Water: People have a fundamental yearning for great bodies of water. But the very movement of the people toward water can also destroy the water.

Common Land: Without common land no social system can survive.

Food Stands: The food stands which make the best foods, and contribute most to city life are the smallest shacks & carts from which individual vendors sell their wares.

Local Sport: Scatter opportunities for physical activity, so that they are close to every house or place of work.

Accessible Green: People need green open places to go; when they are close they use them.

Small Public Squares: A town needs public squares; they are the largest, most public rooms, that the town has.

Parking: Very simply, when the area devoted to parking is too great, it destroys the land.
