We invite you to attend "Policing, Capitalism, & the Criminalization of Asian Americans", an educational and interactive workshop hosted by the Organizing Fellows at Asian American Organizing Project!
About the workshop
In light of George Floyd’s murder, increased anti-Asian violence, and increased fear of crime, many Asian Americans have re-evaluated their ideas of policing and community safety. However, Asian American experiences and histories are often excluded from mainstream conversations around policing. In this workshop, we will dig into the history of it all; the origins of police in America, how policing is intertwined with capitalism, and how Asian American communities have been criminalized and affected by America’s public safety systems. We aim to develop a welcoming space for Asian American young people to discuss their own ideas about and experiences with police, capitalism, and safety in America.
This workshop is targeted towards Asian American young people (18-35). Workshop registration will be capped at 30 participants, due to space limitations and to ensure quality discussion. Participants will be registered on a first come, first served basis and those who register after the limit is reached will be added to a wait list. We will update this form when the registration limit is reached.
Workshop participants will receive a $20 Visa gift card as a participation stipend. Participants must stay for the entire workshop (6-8PM) to receive the stipend.
