REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERING:
Individuals MUST be 18 years and older to volunteer with Save the Kitties.

Children 13-17 years old are welcome to volunteer with an active parent at any time.

Children under 13 years of age are allowed to come with their parent during open storefront hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: OR, have the approval of the Volunteer Coordinator or other STK Board Member.

In order to stay a current volunteer, we ask that you volunteer at least 4 hours a month.

***Please Note: We currently DO NOT allow volunteers requiring COURT APPOINTED community service hours.

SHELTER ROLES:

CLEANING
This role is our biggest need at the rescue. We have volunteers who come by daily to care for the cats. The cleaning includes giving fresh food/water, scooping litter boxes, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, washing dishes, and doing laundry. You will also stock food and litter in each room. You get to spend time with cats and kittens while also making a difference by helping keep their environment clean. We need cleaning volunteers every day of the week, but especially on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday when we are open for adoptions.
Shifts are on average 2 hours long.

STOREFRONT/ADOPTIONS
This role would be responsible for greeting guests, accepting donations, taking information down for owner surrenders, and doing adoptions. It does take a little more training (at least two shadow shifts) to feel comfortable with all the information. We are open Friday 11am-3pm, Saturday 11am-4pm, and Sunday 12-4pm. Ideally, one person would work the entire shift, but you schedule yourself for shifts. Having a store front buddy makes the shifts more fun too! A good understanding of shelter operations and familiarity with our adoptable cats is a must to be successful in this role! (Cleaning and spending time with kitties is the BEST way to learn their behavior and habits.)

MEDICATING CATS
We have cats that get treated for upper respiratory infections, ringworm, ear mites, etc. Medications are given orally with a syringe, orally by a pill, topically with cream, or with drops. Volunteers who are trained in giving cat’s medicine are so important. They help the sick cats get healthy and ready for adoption. We help train you and make sure you are comfortable administering medications.

Waiver:
Save the Kitties BH4LP is not responsible for any cat related injuries caused by the cats in our care. This means that if you were to be bitten or scratched while volunteering with the cats/kittens we will not be held responsible for said injuries. All of our cats have age-appropriate vaccines which mean younger kittens are not fully vaccinated. Please understand you are choosing to play with cats at your own will, and cats can become upset or defensive if played with too rough which can lead to them scratching or biting.

I understand by submitting this application that Save the Kitties BH4LP is not responsible for any injury caused to me by the cats in their care while I choose to volunteer.
Next Steps:
Upon submission of your application, it will be automatically emailed to our volunteer coordinator. Please allow 2-4 days for them to review your application and get back with you. The primary communication method is via email. Be sure to check your spam or junk mail folder as our emails go there occasionally.

Our volunteer coordinator will be in contact to schedule a new volunteer orientation.

We look forward to having you join our team!
