A Civic Assembly (CA) is a body of community members who come together to deliberate on a given issue and provide a set of recommendations, options, or a collective decision. In our case, we'll be using a CA to deliberate on Participatory Budgeting project ideas and decide what ideas will go on the ballot. In order to have this group be representative of District 22, we are asking for nominations of community members to serve on the assembly. These names will be selected through a lottery that is stratified by demographic information (age, race, gender) to ensure random and representative participation.
Please nominate 4 people who are representative of your community. Our goal is to engage participants who have historically been less involved in political or governmental activities. We recommend that you nominate a diverse group of people from different backgrounds, gender identities, skills, and ages. Everyone 16+ is encouraged to participate. If your community includes young people, we recommend that you nominate at least one person under the age of 25 to participate.
Please reach out to Nomi Tinkelman with any questions. You can reach her at ntinkelman@council.nyc.gov.
[Note: For this Civic Assembly, citizenship is not a requirement or consideration of this process. Anyone 16 and up who lives or works in District 22 is welcome and encouraged to participate in this process!]
