Invitation to PATHWAYS OF ASIAN EXCELLENCE: Exploring South and East Asian Heritage

All families are invited to attend this FREE evening event. We are asking families to pre-register their attendance, in advance, so that we have an idea of how many individuals are anticipated to attend, for planning purposes.
NOTE - Each workshop session (3 rotations) will have a limited number of individuals (35 per session) who can participate, due to availability of space, materials and/or equipment. Please ensure that you visit the registration table (between 5:00 - 5:30 p.m) upon entry to pick up your colour-coded workshop ticket. If you are not participating in a workshop session, please visit the various information tables for an abundance of activities & community partner tables throughout the evening.
Ruth Ohi is a renowned author and illustrator. Her books include Scribble and Blanket. This is an interactive workshop where she uses samples of a book to demonstrate the process of being an illustrator and author. Information can be found in her website: www.RuthOhi.com
Anjali Joshi is a STEM educator and children's book author, with over ten published children's books. Her books range from retelling of Hindu mythological taes, such as Laxmi's Diwali Dream Team, to stories of South Asian trailblazers, such as Sarla in the Sky and Little Jagadish and the Great Experiment. Through her stories, Anjali hopes to give children an opportunity to see themselves and their lived experiences reflected in the books that they read. Tai Chi is a martial arts practice that focuses on building strength and balance. It includes slow and deliberate movements. It is considered a gentle exercise that can be part of a healthy lifestyle.
Madura from Advaita Movement will be hosting a yoga and wellbeing session. Advaita Movement follows the traditional teachings of Raja Yoga. Raja yoga is the yoga of mind and body control, with a focus on meditation and energetics. Learn more at: https://advaitamovement.com
Bollywood dance is a dance style that originated in Indian cinema. It combines elements of many different dance styles, including classical, belly dance, Indian folk dance, jazz and modern dance. This workshop routine also incorporates many different styles of music, both traditional and modern. Learn a short Bollywood routine and dance to film songs in this cultural workshop.
STEM - Make-do Kit Station: Make-do kits are a great way to spark creativity and ignite imagination in kids to have fun while learning and creating a BIG fun “wonderful world of upcycled creations”! Makedo can be used to cut, fold and connect forts, create costumes, robots and more for hours of entertainment and awesomeness.
