2026 Beacons Summer Workshop Interest List

Thank you for your interest in our summer workshops! We are offering an impactful and engaging summer schedule at Beacons that balances skill-building with creativity, social connection, and real-world experiences.

These workshops are designed for individuals with mild to moderate developmental or intellectual disabilities aged 16+ to explore vocational and career readiness skills in a supportive environment. Our goal is to build confidence, independence, and practical abilities that can be carried into everyday life and future opportunities.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS FORM PUTS YOU ON AN INTEREST LIST, and completion of this form does not guarantee a space in the workshop. Enrollment will be made on a first-come, first-served basis in a manner consistent with the participation criteria (see below).

LOCATION

All workshops are at 2245 Camino Vida Roble, Suite 100, Carlsbad, CA 92011.

SCHEDULE

Morning Workshops: 9:30 AM-12:30 PM

Afternoon Workshops: 12:30 PM-3:30 PM

WORKSHOPS

Our workshops will focus on career readiness and exploring potential skills and interests across a wide variety of areas. If the required enrollment minimums are not met, the workshop will be rescheduled or canceled (and money refunded if a payment has been made). Workshops are designed to be playful and fun, and engage participants during the summer months.

PARTICIPATION CRITERIA

Beacons’ programming is designed for individuals with mild to moderate disabilities who can perform activities and lessons with minimal prompting or assistance, manage their own self-care, and follow and comply with instructional demands and instructors' commands. Individuals with mental health conditions or behaviors that may make them disruptive or cause unsafe conditions for themselves or others are not eligible for Beacons’ programming. Beacons staff does not administer medications or have emergency response teams in place to address or support individuals with significant behavioral challenges.

*Individuals in need of assistance with self-care should contact Beacons to discuss whether there is room for the individual to attend with a self-provided personal care attendant.

Trainees with a history of physical aggression resulting in or risking physical injury to others, self-injurious behaviors, damage to property, elopement, smearing of feces, displays of inappropriate sexual behavior, defiance, and/or behaviors that impede the learning of self or others, or other disruptive or maladaptive behaviors, are not eligible for Beacons’ programming.

RATIOS

Ratios will not exceed 10:3 (participants to instructors).

PAYMENT OPTIONS

  1. SAN DIEGO REGIONAL CENTER (SDRC) FUNDING
For eligible applicants aged 18+ who have exited their school districts, the San Diego Regional Center may pay up to 4 workshops this summer (32 hours). To be eligible for funding for these workshops, the SDRC consumer typically must have exited their school district by aging out at age 22 or by graduation, and not be in another SDRC-funded program (e.g., a Day Program) or option (e.g., Voyager) (unless an exemption or exception has been granted under WIC § 4648.55). Please speak to your SDRC Service Coordinator to determine if you are eligible for funding.

If you are eligible for funding, the SDRC will create a "purchase of service" (POS) and send that to Beacons to cover the costs of the workshop. SDRC will need our vendor information to create the POS. Beacons' Summer vendor code is: PY1700, Code: 102, Subcode: Mini.

SDRC funds up to 4 workshops, but if a person wants to attend more than 4, they may pay privately.

  2. PRIVATE PAY
Individuals may pay privately if they are not eligible for funding through the SDRC or a Self Determination Budget because they are still in a school district or want to attend more than the 4 workshops funded by SDRC. If interested in private pay, please contact Pathfinder@BeaconNorthCounty.com.

  3. SELF-DETERMINATION PROGRAM (SDP)
Individuals in the Self-Determination Program may use their funding for whatever activities are permitted under their IPP and spending plans. Please contact your independent facilitator or contact Pathfinder@BeaconsNorthCounty.com to discuss costs and payment and to verify that the spending plan has sufficient funding set aside to cover costs. Payment for hours that exceed the funding allocated in the Spending Plan will need to be covered by private funding.

DEADLINE, CHANGES, AND CANCELLATIONS DUE BY JUNE 22nd

Our workshops typically have waitlists, so please let us know by 5:00 PM, June 22nd, with any changes or if you need to cancel by emailing Pathfinder@BeaconsNorthCounty.com. Cancellations of workshops by June 22nd, paid for with private funding, will be refunded. The SDRC is not billed unless the trainee attends the workshop.

Workshops with fewer than 6 enrolled by June 6th may be canceled or replaced with another workshop. In the event a workshop is canceled due to low enrollment, individuals who have privately paid for the workshop will receive a full refund. Participants who signed up for canceled workshops will be notified by June 6th, if possible, and given the opportunity to sign up for other open workshops.
