Equity PD Pathways: Summer Working Groups
The Office of Professional Learning would like to invite you to optional collaboration opportunities to help shape the goals and direction of our Equity PD Pathways for School Leaders for SY2024-2025! There are 1-2 virtual summer working group meetings scheduled for each of our Equity PD Pathways, where participants will weigh in on what this PD pathway should look like in the upcoming year. This input will inform how the PD pathways are rolled out at August Leadership Convening. APs will be paid for their participation in these meetings.

All of our Equity PD Pathways are described below, as well as dates for summer working group meetings. Please use this form to indicate which working group you'd like to join, and we'll invite you to calendar invites!

Our Equity PD Pathways:

BIPOC LeadersThink Tank: Our aim is to foster a community where BIPOC leaders engage in introspective and collective exploration of their multiple and intersectional identities in order to cultivate anti-racist leadership practices within educational settings. We believe in embracing our whole selves and leveraging our diverse backgrounds to challenge systemic inequities. This summer working group will meet on July 9th from 1-2:30pm.

Black Male Leader Think Tank (BMLTT): Our purpose is to cultivate a supportive community among Black male leaders within the School District of Philadelphia. Through collaboration and action-oriented subcommittees, we aim to increase awareness of and address the data on Black male recruitment and retention in the district. Additionally, we seek to amplify the representation of Black male leaders through the establishment of a leadership development group that empowers the communities we serve. This summer working group will meet on July 2 from 11-12:30.

Black Women Leaders Think Tank (BWLTT): Our purpose is to establish a collaborative and safe space for Black women school leaders within the School District of Philadelphia, where they can address and take action on issues at the intersection of race, gender identity, and leadership. We envision a district that protects, believes in, supports, and develops Black women leaders. This summer working group will meet on July 8 from 12-1:30.

Equity Data Training Series: Our purpose is to humanize school data and utilize it as a tool to advance equitable outcomes for all students. Through collective problem-solving and the identification of equity leadership expertise within our group, we aim to address challenges and implement solutions that promote inclusivity and positive social change in our schools. This summer working group will meet on July 8, 12:30-2:00.

Immigrant Leaders Think Tank: Our purpose is to create a pathway for leaders that transcends racial and ethnic boundaries, uniting a community through shared experiences of struggle, joy, and cultural brilliance arising from our dual identities. We aim to address the impact of colonialism and imperialism on ourselves and our students, combat misconceptions and erasure of immigrant experiences, and advocate for the recognition and inclusion of immigrant students' needs and ancestral knowledge within school communities. This summer working group will meet on July 15 from 2:30-3:30, and July 16 from 11:15-12:15.

Latino/é Leaders Think Tank: Our purpose is to champion equity, inclusion, and positive social change within the School District of Philadelphia by fostering an educational environment where Latino/é students' cultures are uplifted and celebrated. Through our efforts, we aim to create a school district that serves as a model for equity and inclusion, where Latino/é voices are valued, represented, and empowered, and where culturally responsive instruction and mentorship are prioritized. This summer working group will meet on June 26 from 11:12:30.

Micro Disruptions - Adult Culture: Our purpose is to equip educators and leaders with the tools and strategies needed to dismantle micro-level inequities in educational settings. By empowering leaders with the requisite skills and knowledge, our aim is to support leaders with cultivating a healthy and anti-racist adult culture that regularly engages in inquiry, courageous conversations, collaboration and healthy conflict, and is grounded in systemic and historical understandings of disparities. This summer working group will meet on June 28th, 11-12, and July 8, 10-11.

Micro Disruptions - Instructional Culture: Our purpose is to cultivate transformative environments within educational settings where leaders actively address inequities in instructional practices, fostering equity, inclusion, and positive social change. Through intentional actions and continuous learning, we support leaders in creating an instructional culture where our instructional staff believes in, and acts upon, our collective responsibility for each student’s genius and capacity to learn high standards, regardless of background. This summer working group will meet on June 27, 12-1:30 and July 1, 10-11:30.

Self As Core: Our purpose is to foster equity, inclusion, and positive social change through self-reflection and exploring the intersectionality of marginalized and privileged identities, our own and those of our community. Additionally, the examination of history and the origins and implications of systemic racism provide a common understanding and language to engage in courageous conversations and more intentionally act to create a more equitable and inclusive environment where all individuals feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. This summer working group will met on June 28th, 10-11am, and July 9, 1-2pm.

White Anti-Racist Leaders Think Tank: Our purpose is to cultivate a community of white leaders committed to fostering equity, inclusion, and positive social change within educational settings. By investigating and confronting whiteness, reflecting on our learnings and actions, we strive to create transformative change and contribute to the creation of equitable and inclusive educational environments. Essential in aspiring to be a white antiracist leader is recognizing how and why your racial identity influences your leadership and interactions with your community. This summer working group will meet on July 11, 9:30-10:30, and July 15, 1-2pm.
