Atlantic Pacific are looking for all types of volunteers to join our Summer School this year. If you think you can help Atlantic Pacific and its mission, please apply. The application consists of six sections and should take no longer than 40 minutes to complete.
As the Course focuses on sea-based Search and Rescue (SAR), applicants must be comfortable entering the water. Fitness will not be tested as part of the Course, but applicants should be able to lift themselves into the boat (this technique can be equated to getting out of a swimming pool without using the steps, and practiced in the same way).
Accommodation and catering is included in the cost of the Course, as well as a Welcome Pack per participant. The Summer School will take place at UWC Atlantic College in South Wales. For insurance purposes, we can only accept applications from those who will be over 18 years of age on attending the Summer School. The Course includes training in and assessment of Atlantic Pacific's Casualty Care certification, focused on utilising AP's Check Cards, which is valid for three years.
****** NB: This year our Summer School is following a different format -- instead of two separate courses, Beginners' and Advanced, we will be running one course which caters to two layers of ability: deckhand (no previous experience necessary) and helm (previous experience and ability to drive a boat necessary, RYA 2 coastal licence preferable). ******
If you are in doubt as to which Atlantic Pacific Course to select, please consult the FAQ page on our website (www.atlanticpacific.org.uk/training-and-crew/atlantic-pacific-summer-school/summer-school-2019/frequently-asked-questions-for-summer-school-2018/).
COURSE DETAILS AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. Atlantic Pacific Crew: FULL COURSE
24th June (evening) -- 4th July (morning), 2019
This is for people who have not attended an AP Summer School before, or who attended the 2016 (1st) Summer School and therefore do not hold a valid AP Casualty Care certification. Other First Aid certifications do not apply as we require all AP crew to undertake our in-house Casualty Care training, as per previous years' Courses.
2. Atlantic Pacific Crew: (WITHOUT AP CAS CARE)
26th June (evening) -- 4th July (morning), 2019
This is the same course but gives those who did the AP Casualty Care certification in 2018 or 2017 the option to arrive two days later, after this part of the Course has been delivered.
APPLICATION DEADLINE AND PAYMENT:
The deadline for all applications is MIDNIGHT, FRIDAY 1st MARCH (GMT). Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications we receive, late applications cannot be considered. We will be in touch shortly afterwards to inform you of the outcome of your application.
If you are successful in gaining a place on the Summer School, the full fee for the Course (£450 or £550) must be paid to Atlantic Pacific no later than 5pm, 15th of March in order to secure your place. If you are making a transfer from overseas, please allow enough time for the payment to arrive before this date. Further details regarding the payment will be supplied once the Summer School places have been confirmed, including information on any scholarships that may be available this year.
