Asking for extensions is not viewed negatively in 2.671! We know you have many demands on your time, and prefer that you ask for an extension when needed rather than submitting on time work that does not represent your capabilities, or submitting your work late and receiving a late penalty of 10% per 24 hours (not pro-rated). We want you to submit your best work, and if you need a little more time to do so, just ask.
However, some assignments are not eligible for extensions, except in case of personal emergency. In particular, no extensions are granted on prelabs, unless you are doing the lab later than the rest of your section. (If you do the lab earlier than your section, your prelab will be due correspondingly earlier). Please confirm with Dr. Hughey via email at email@example.com
the due dates of your prelab and postlab for any experiments you do not perform with your lab section.
Requests for extensions of 24 hours or less do not require any justification, and should be requested below
Longer requests require that you explain your circumstances, but please do not hesitate to ask for a longer extension if needed. Even if you don’t think you have a valid reason, we will grant any reasonable requests if at all possible. Those extension should be requested by another form here: https://tinyurl.com/y6dmx8ap
NOTE ABOUT EMERGENCIES: If any sudden unexpected situation develops that will make it difficult for you to submit your assignment on time please email us immediately to explain the circumstances. Personal emergencies include anything unexpected that prevents you from working productively during the time you had planned to complete the assignment, including (but not limited to) illness (you or a family member or friend), computer malfunction, unexpected interview, distressing political events, etc. In case of emergency, students sometimes make poor choices and plagiarize or fabricate results in order to submit the assignment. Academic dishonesty will have much more serious consequences than any late penalty that you might receive, so please contact us rather than doing something you may later regret. Important Note:
We will not grant extensions on top of extensions (except in case of emergency) so please ask for an extension to the time at which you realistically expect to be be able to submit your assignment (the extension does not need to be a multiple of 24 hours). We may not be able to grant it, but there is no penalty for asking.
If you request a 24 hour extension via this form, and then decide you need more time, you may request a longer extension via the other form, as long as it is 24 hours before the POSTED due date on Canvas (not your extended due date)
Please note that if this extension request is submitted less than 24 hours before the due time for your lab section, any extension granted may come with a 10% penalty, which is what you will receive for submitting up to 24 hours late anyway.
The decision on your request requires human intervention, even for a 24 hour extension which is automatically granted. You will be notified by email - if you have not heard back within 24 hours please ping Dr Hughey to check your status.
