ALA Data Quality project priorities
The ALA Data Quality Project (
) is well underway, we’ve conducted a baseline survey and had our first workshop with reference group members and stakeholders.
Now we want to know what you consider the most important problem for the ALA data quality project to solve – your top priority.
Please use the form below to tell us what you think the most important issue is. This survey will be open until Monday, May 4th 2020.
As we develop solutions that address top priority issues, we will check in with users to assess how priorities change.
Definitions of terms used in the survey
• Research = ecoscientists, taxonomists, collection owners, tertiary students and lecturers.
• Government and Land Management = federal, state and local government departments, land managers, landowners, rangers, non-government organisations, and environmental consultants.
• Communities and Schools = citizen scientists, community groups, school students and teachers, and the general public.
Which domain are you primarily from?
Government and Land Management
Communities and Schools
What do you consider the main data quality issue for the ALA? Please select a single highest priority issue. If none of the specific examples align with your main issue, please describe it in the section at the end of the form.
I can’t access the data I need efficiently as it is not in a format I need or it is incorrectly processed or generalised
ALA data is not being used in government systems
I don’t know whether to use particular records or data sets for my purpose because quality indicators are not visible or I don't understand what the information means
I want to improve data through annotations (individually or in bulk), flagging duplicates or indicating "good" records and have those annotations quickly visible or updated on the record
Incorrect data is used in building outlier models
I want to test and improve my data before sharing it via the ALA
I need more data for my research, analysis and/or decision support. Please describe the additional data (occurrence, profile or taxonomic) in the comments field below*
More information is needed so that there is a better understanding of data and data quality and how to use the ALA tools to access data and information. Please describe the additional information or training material in the comments field below*
*Please describe the additional data or explanatory information
If you have additional priorities please describe them here. In the description please include the problem you need to solve e.g. "I want to ..." and reason "so that I can ...".
