In conversations about acoustics in the built environment, sound is often viewed as a necessary evil to manage, reduce, or eliminate. But sound, when harnessed correctly, is as important a design element as light, color, or form. In this course, we’ll explore outside inspiration from the world of art: can sound be seen? How does a sculpture installation take crashing waves and turn them into a symphony? And we’ll hear the story of a man whose very ability to navigate the world around him depends on sound.
And, as we turn to application in the built environment, we’ll explore how sound contributes to user experience and well-being in a variety of settings, each with their own unique set of needs. Demystifying acoustician recommendations and test reports, participants will be empowered to balance technical knowledge with a deeper understanding of acoustical comfort.
