Hello, fellow farmers!

I’m a student at the University of Leeds currently conducting research on how agroecological farming practices can help make the UK’s food system more resilient and sustainable. Your insights as farmers are incredibly valuable, and I’d be grateful if you could share your thoughts on a few key questions related to farming practices and policies.

Below are the topics I’m exploring. Feel free to answer any or all of them based on your experience. Your input will contribute to understanding the challenges and opportunities for making farming in the UK more sustainable.

What government programs or policies have you come across that support sustainable farming practices, such as agroecology? *

In your experience, how effective are these policies in helping reduce issues like dependency on imports or challenges with centralized distribution systems?

How has reliance on imported inputs (like fertilizers, seeds, or animal feed) affected your farm?

What could be done, either through policies or practical initiatives, to help farmers rely more on local resources and reduce this dependency?

Have you seen or participated in efforts to build more localized or decentralized supply chains? If yes, what worked well, and what didn’t?

What do you think are the biggest challenges to creating stronger regional food systems in the UK?

From your perspective, what are the biggest challenges to adopting sustainable farming practices, like agroecology?

Are there any specific types of support-financial, technical, or otherwise-that would make it easier for you or others to implement these practices?

How do you see collaborations between farmers, local communities, and the government helping to improve sustainable farming?
