Here at the Kirk, those who are in or have completed 8th grade, are invited to join our Confirmation class for the duration of the Christian education year. Confirmation is a special time when each youth has the opportunity to carefully reflect on and explore their personal faith. At the end of the Confirmation year, youth are asked if they are prepared to affirm the baptismal vows made by their parents on their child’s behalf, claiming Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. For youth who are not Baptized, it is an opportunity to make their own profession of faith and be Baptized. Confirmation is an exciting journey in a youth’s faith life and I hope you will consider signing up for our 2019-2020 class! Confirmation will meet on Sunday mornings from 9:45 – 10:45, following the church-wide Sunday school schedule. Participating in Confirmation class includes attending a required number of classes, spending time with a mutually agreed upon mentor (who is an adult member of the church), completing in and out of class assignments, participating in two confirmation retreats (in October and April), and participating in at least two service activities with your mentor. You will also be provided with a copy of “The Jesus Creed for Students” (Scot McKnight) to read in preparation for Confirmation. This easy to read book will help you to begin thinking about your faith in a new way and help to guide our discussions next year!
As you and your youth consider participating in Confirmation next year, please feel free to contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org, 919-467-4944) with any questions. Attached you will find a registration form to register your youth for class. You may return this via email or bring it to the above mentioned class. All forms must be turned in no later than May 31.
