Last year the Federal Government changed the rules for the Fisheries Research and Development Corporations to allow it to undertake marketing activities. The FRDC sees its initial role in marketing as around listening and talking with the industry to gain understanding of what end users want from a collective marketing function. To this end a Marketing Function Advisory Committee was set up to assist FRDC refine the stakeholder engagement strategy. The Marketing Function Advisory Committee brings together individuals who represent producers (licence holders and fishers), companies (small to large), sectors and representatives of the supply chain. Marketing or promotional activities would need to be funded by industry contributions and would not be eligible for Government funding.
