The council will be comprised of up to 15 students who will learn about opportunities and services provided at WMU. Council members are expected to attend bi-weekly two hour meetings. Council meetings will be structured such that during the first hour a presentation will be provided by a guest speaker to speak about a specific campus service or department and what policies and resources currently foster diversity and inclusion here on campus. The remaining time will be reserved for a Q&A amongst the Advisory Council. Following their presentation, the Advisory Council will discuss and share ideas on how to increase awareness of existing diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives along with providing suggestions to help improve our campus commitment to diversity and inclusion. (group project based off what we learned fall semester)
The goal of the Student Advisory Council is to support diversity and inclusion efforts at WMU. The Coordinator of the Office of LBGT Student Services, Jennifer Hsu, will use the information provided by the Student Advisory Council to help improve campus trainings, develop LBGT-inclusive programming and provide insight on LBGT-friendly services. There will also be an opportunity for students to gain leadership experience by becoming executive committee members.
Participation in the LBGT Student Advisory Council is a 2 semester commitment. Dates for the Fall 2013 semester will be determined at our planning meeting on March 21, 2013. Is important, but not required, to attend the planning meeting. We will be discussing possible presenters, meeting dates, and direction for the LBGT Student Advisory Council
We will be conducting group interviews, in the space provided on the form, please be sure to include days and times available for a group interview.
